Workshop on Draft Rajasthan Land Acquisition Bill - 2014 (26th August 2014)

Rajmeru/RVM organized a state level workshop at Haryana Bhavan, Jaipur on 26th August to protest against Draft Rajasthan Land Acquisition Bill, 2014. The motive of the workshop was to protest the bill and create understanding of participants on the provisions of this draft bill as well as to provide comparison of this bill versus Central Government Land Acquisition Bill, 2013 to all the participants. Representatives from several people organization came from all over the state and decide to send post cards to Government against the bill. This was also decided in the workshop that proposal will be given against the bill in upcoming Gramsabha in the state.

It was also decided to give letter to the MLA of respective areas by clearing the statement that we think that bringing in such a law is a misfortune for the people of the State, that we are left with no other option but to reject it because the 2014 Rajasthan Draft bill has completely ignored the "he Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquistion, Rehabilitation, Resettlement Act, 2013", which came out of a long process of more than thirty years of debate and discussion and was finally  passed by the Parliament which replaced the 1894 law. The 2014 Rajasthan Draft bill not only removes all the provisions that were pro farmer in the 2013 law but has instead introduced sections that are against the people. We would like to reiterate that when there is a central law, then what is the justification of bringing in a new law which withdraws the positive provisions.
